Web design and development from Brighton, UK

About Me

Hi, I'm Chris and I make websites by the seaside in Brighton, UK. I've been doing this since 1998 and have a list of satisfied clients from around the UK, Europe and the world with names big, small and everything in between. Give me a complex problem to solve (and a cup of tea) and I'll come up with an elegant, scalable and extensible solution to fit your needs not only today, but for the long-term future too. I'm passionate about honest personal service, which is why I don't do sales speak or baffle people with tech talk - I explain each step of a project in as much or as little detail as my clients want, that's up to you.

I'm a full stack developer, as happy ensuring that the latest CSS3 transition has accessible cross-browser support as I am fighting against a MySQL bug marked wontfix a decade ago. I'm not just about the technology; graphic design and UX are central to my workflow and by necessity interconnected from start to finish.

I graduated with a first-class honours BA degree in Multimedia from Nottingham Trent University in 2007, plus a foundation year at University of Portsmouth studying communication design in 2004. Some of my work from this period can still be found in the Portsmouth Society's archive, documenting the architecture of the city.

I'm a fierce single-speed cyclist with the bad knees to prove it, a creative vegan chef who squanders Instagram likes in favour of diving straight in, and in spite of tinnitus, an enthusiastic live sound technician that can get an eight-piece multi-instrumentalist band on stage and sounding great without a sound check in minutes.

Let's see how we can work together.

Projects

Stag & Hen t-shirts

Consumer facing custom clothing eCommerce site. Dynamic webapp enables customers to create and preview their own orders before production with extensive customisation and upsell options.

PACT Monitoring

Interfacing with PACT's data gathering devices, this project required massive quantities of data, transmitted over mobile telephone networks, to be precisely processed securely and instantaniously, before immediate feedback. Utilised by construction projects such as CrossRail and Dawlish railway reconstruction.

Litchfield & Fox

Project management, graphic design and development for this brand new property management company's lifestyle services site. Built on top of a custom CMS, priorities were SEO, design and ease of use for a rapid sign-off.

Leavers Hoodies

eCommerce solution for rapidly expanding clothing company. Multiple templated storefronts and custom products with infinite variations are handled via a centralised top-to-bottom integrated administration system.

Testimonials

I'm delighted that I found Chris to work with on my website as he made a technical and daunting project feel simple and fun. He was really helpful in guiding the way the site should function for SEO and usability for customers, while still helping me to achieve the things I wanted to. Chris' approach is very flexible, responsive and professional and has resulted in a website which I feel extremely proud of and regularly get positive comments about. His knowledge and skills are first rate and the back end system is easy to use and update. Since the build I have recommended him to people and shall continue to do so!
